there are some haircuts that you like after they grow out a bit.
there are some that you like in a week or so after getting used to them.
there are some that you like after half an hour of wondering if you could live with this.
there are some you like after five minutes of admiring yourself.
and then there's the immediately perfect one. :)

i'm being selfish again.
there's this nice new bar that's been open for maybe two months now - and i don't even go there all that often. but every time i go there are more people there. some of them have those blond-white-girl dreadlocks. some of them clearly make their own clothes. some of them wear vintage. some of them wear abercromby and accessory-belts over their beltloops. what if they're the wrong kind of people? what if i tell people about it and then they tell their friends and they tell their friends and suddenly it's impossible to get a sandwich and they run out of sangria before 9:00 every night? which would obviously be great for business - but not so great for me. i want a little bar with a maximum fire-danger occupancy of maybe 20 ... but that is still cool and has bad lighting and good live music on weekends. and then when i finally move away, it closes.
who's a prima donna? what are you talking about? i'd only be spoiled if i had one.
on a related note, i'd be okay if my little brother grew up and was just like the guy on keyboards. same haircut, dorky glasses, a sweater his mom probably got for him ... but playing a pianno, including solos, in some little smoky bar somewhere. probably getting paid peanuts ... or sandwiches.

Writing is an awfully good habit to be in and i really feel like i ought to do more of it. This is why i got this thing. Because i can have imaginary readers - like imaginary friends who only want One Thing: more blog entries. with imaginary peer pressure. imaginary dissappointment.
(all my imaginary readers are very discouraged by the recent lack of comments, but they should be back shortly.)
but nothing ever happens. sometimes we order pizza. sometimes the dogs do funny things (the Small Dog has learned to remove the top of the dog food bin; the Slightly Less Small Dog can open the closet door to get in the trash). sometimes my boss goes crackerdog. and sometimes i do this from work and have to go do stuff. *grin*

top ten not-so-fantastic things about having dogs - - paw prints on the windows.
- chew marks on the coffee table.
- they ate a comforter. it was very close to new and now it has seven holes in it.
- dryer lint has doubled in volume.
- paw prints on your friends.
- navigating the vast, uncharted gray area between Dog People and Animal Precinct.
- wet noses at 3:30 AM.
- that preoccupation with feet.
- dog hair on your chair at work.
- nose-prints on your glasses.

and we're back from vacation - we were in florida for nearly a week - and at work again. and able to blog.
only the boss is still off, and is back only tomorrow afternoon. so it's sort of easing back into normality.
and i think i may have had the flu. drinking lots of tea and having echinacea and vitamin C and tylenol-cold just in case.
when the guests left there was all sorts of different food in the fridge. lots of oranges, and toaster pastries, and fish soup concentrate, and Lean Cuisine. i've been eating the toaster pastries, but the oranges seem to have gone off and all brown while we were away. probably should have tossed them beforehand, like the milk. but the Lean Cuisine will probably come in handy someday for a lunch or something when i'm feeling uninspired - and i learned how to make the fish soup and it's better than it sounds.
baby wasn't eating baby food yet, so they didn't leave any of that. we'd have had to feed it to the dog - none of the babies we know eat it. they eat frozen vegetables and corn dogs and pasta. i have to agree with the baby that likes pasta. when we had the baby that likes pasta over - it might have actually been on christmas - we gave him a bowl of tortellinis or something (in one of the blue spotted tin unbreakable camping bowls) and he turned it upside down over his head. the dogs loved it - all the food went on the floor. but they didn't get to lick off the baby.
the baby got to come over and take care of the dogs while we were away, too, and apparently he Loved It. i think he likes it better when the dogs wash his face than when mommy does. but maybe that's because he knows the dogs aren't going to wash his hair.
